Summary

"C'est une longue histoire, une histoire de grand amour, de grande tragédie, de magie et de mystère, de triomphe et de désastre。 C'est mon histoire。 Mais c'est l'histoire surtout de la Table ronde où, autrefois, siégeait une assemblée de chevaliers, les hommes les meilleurs et les plus valeureux que le monde ait jamais connus。 Je commencerai par le commencement, quand j'étais encore un enfant à peine plus âgé que tu ne l'es aujourd'hui"--P。 [4] of cover。

This book was really good! It's a retelling of Arthurian legends; with the original sword in the stone story and some more about various knights。 My favourite was the one called 'Gawain and the Green Knight'。 I loved the bravery and the magic。 There are lots of morals involved all to do with right vs wrong, good vs evil and love。 The characters are well-written and I like how the story spans over many years。 I would definitely recommend this book。 This book was really good! It was very good, and much more truthful then the Once and Future King by T。H White (which I highly recommend XD) But I really didn't like them ending where everything seemed to fall part。 It was very good, and much more truthful then the Once and Future King by T。H White (which I highly recommend XD) But I really didn't like them ending where everything seemed to fall part。 。。。more

This is a children's book。 I remember reading it as a child and I bought a copy so that I could read it to my son。 I wanted to reread it, so I could gage what age he needs to be before we start it。 A very quick read, and a great intro for kids into the Arthurian mythos。 This is a children's book。 I remember reading it as a child and I bought a copy so that I could read it to my son。 I wanted to reread it, so I could gage what age he needs to be before we start it。 A very quick read, and a great intro for kids into the Arthurian mythos。 。。。more

I am quite fond of Arthurian mythology, and I remember reading this book as child。 Discovering it once more through my adult eyes was an absolute pleasure, and allowed me to appreciate Morpugo’s writing even more。 A must-read for anyone who wishes to gain basic knowledge about the adventures of Arthur and his devoted knights of the round table !

Great retelling and perfect for a 12-14 year old。 Due to mild sexuality not suitable for my 10 year old。。。we don’t want to go there。

I’ll never forget this book。 I picked it up randomly in the library when I was 11。 This is one of those books for me that you define your reading life as before finding it and after。 Now I’m 35。 It started me on a long path of devouring Arthurian legend books。 I can’t wait until my son is old enough for me to give him this。

Not enjoyable all that enjoyable。 Whilst Arthur stays true to his character, a few of them straight up change and do ridiculous things out of the blue。 There's no set-up, no cause for their characters to change as they do。 I know this is just a retelling aimed at children, but some of it simply felt jarring, and bumpy to read。 Due to the foreshadowing mechanism, ie。 merlin, you see that the things he says come true but some things do not make sense because of the truth in his words。 However, it Not enjoyable all that enjoyable。 Whilst Arthur stays true to his character, a few of them straight up change and do ridiculous things out of the blue。 There's no set-up, no cause for their characters to change as they do。 I know this is just a retelling aimed at children, but some of it simply felt jarring, and bumpy to read。 Due to the foreshadowing mechanism, ie。 merlin, you see that the things he says come true but some things do not make sense because of the truth in his words。 However, it is a very engaging book, but engaging doesn't always mean good。 The ending is kathartic although quite unsatisfying。 。。。more

An exciting and interesting read with intricate layers of stories。 Each tale fitted together perfectly which made the characters engaging and life-like。 (10+)

As much as I love Michael Morpurgo as a writer I am also prepared to say that this was not his best work。It is a retelling of Arthurian legend for a new reader age group。 It is quite violent in places and there are also hints about sex。 It appears to be a mixture of different versions of the legends。 I am sure the author researched these a lot more than I have but some of the stories I have read in the past wouldn't fit into this chronology。 There are a few significant details that I haven't rea As much as I love Michael Morpurgo as a writer I am also prepared to say that this was not his best work。It is a retelling of Arthurian legend for a new reader age group。 It is quite violent in places and there are also hints about sex。 It appears to be a mixture of different versions of the legends。 I am sure the author researched these a lot more than I have but some of the stories I have read in the past wouldn't fit into this chronology。 There are a few significant details that I haven't read elsewhere included in this as well as some significant changes。 The author definitely put his own signature onto these stories。 What the book lacked for me was an emotional heart。 Arthur doesn't provide one and he isn't always an even likeable narrator。 The side story set in the era that the book was written also could have done with a little expansion。 I enjoyed more than I disliked about this。 It just never felt like something I was completely invested in。 It would be useful as a guide to Arthurian legend for younger readers but it is far from the author's greatest work。 。。。more

Arthur High King of Britain is written after the legends of King Arthur and his Knights。 Although this was the first time I was acquainted to this tale, I understood soon enough, that all who know the Arthurian Legends surely know about the heartbreaking and tragic love story that ensues during its span。 Micheal Morpurgo with his distinct writing style evoked such emotion within me, filling me with a pang of pain and bringing me to tears towards the end of the book。 As this story is narrated by K Arthur High King of Britain is written after the legends of King Arthur and his Knights。 Although this was the first time I was acquainted to this tale, I understood soon enough, that all who know the Arthurian Legends surely know about the heartbreaking and tragic love story that ensues during its span。 Micheal Morpurgo with his distinct writing style evoked such emotion within me, filling me with a pang of pain and bringing me to tears towards the end of the book。 As this story is narrated by King Arthur, I couldn’t help but side him in the battle of hearts, only to realise that no one is truly right or wrong when it comes to the matters of the heart, although ethically things are rather black and white。 But then again, are ethics of any consideration when love grips the heart? I was reminded of Rainer Maria Rilkes lines, “We need, in love, to practice only this: letting each other go。 For holding on comes easily; we do not need to learn it。” 。。。more
